About the Role
Our client is looking for a Controller to lead financial operations and bring strategic insight and accountability to the organization. As the company expands its technology platform and capital footprint, this role will be crucial in evolving and maintaining financial systems, controls, and reporting processes that align with regulatory requirements and business goals.
This is a high-impact leadership role suited for someone who blends technical accounting proficiency with a strong understanding of the mortgage or financial services landscape. The ideal candidate is capable of building financial infrastructure from the ground up while serving as a strategic partner to company leadership.
Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of accounting operations including GL, AR/AP, month-end close, and GAAP-compliant financial statements
Design and implement internal controls and accounting policies aligned with mortgage regulation
Manage accounting for mortgage loan pipelines, warehouse lines, and loan sales
Partner cross-functionally with Capital Markets, Legal, Operations, and other teams to support product launches and reporting
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis across departments
Manage audits, tax compliance, and relationships with external auditors
Build scalable, automated financial systems and evaluate ERP and analytics tools
Prepare board-level financial presentations and investor materials
Requirements
7–12 years of progressive accounting/finance experience in fintech, mortgage, or financial services
In-depth knowledge of GAAP and mortgage accounting (loan origination, servicing, securitization)
Experience with accounting platforms and financial tools (ERP, dashboards, analytics)
Strong Excel and data analysis proficiency (e.g., PowerBI, Looker)
Proven track record in leading month-end close, audits, compliance, and reporting
Demonstrated ability to scale operations in high-growth settings
Experience mentoring finance/accounting team members
Clear communicator with cross-functional collaboration skills
Highly detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable in fast-paced environments
CPA preferred but not required
