Job Summary
The Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the Pediatric Dentistry faculty, residents, and students with patient care. The RDA is responsible for chair-side setup and cleaning operations, taking dental impressions, taking x-ray films, sterilizing instruments, and assisting the front desk with patient flow in the clinics.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $31.53 - $39.63 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description
The UCSF School of Dentistry, Department of Orofacial Sciences is an exciting academic and clinical enterprise, the role of which is teaching and practicing the diagnosis and treatment of localized and systemic oral diseases and developmental conditions and advancing knowledge about them.
Several clinical disciplines comprise this Department including Craniofacial Anomalies, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry and Periodontology. Cross-disciplinary clinical, teaching and research activities characterize this Department, which benefits from strong interactions within the Dental School, other campus Schools and the Medical Center. Educational activities are broad, providing both predoctoral and postdoctoral students alike with a strong basis of knowledge and clinical experience.
Postgraduate programs in Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontology and Oral Medicine complete the department's instructional activities. Research in the Department covers a broad spectrum of basic, translational, and clinical sciences that complement the clinical activities of the Department.
Required Qualifications
Must be a Registered Dental Assistant and maintain a California X-ray Safety License
Registered Dental Assistant License
Current California x-ray safety certification
Current CPR certification
At least 2 years of experience working with pediatric dental patients, preferably in an academic and or hospital setting
Familiarity with infection control policies and procedures; HIPAA
Basic computer skills
Knowledge of high clinical standards in dental assisting practices and the demonstrated ability to implement these standards. Ability to understand patients' needs and the knowledge to meet those needs
Knowledge of the maintenance and operation of dental equipment and instruments
Sensitivity to patients' cultural backgrounds, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent multitasking and organization skills with the ability to follow through to complete tasks
Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience taking x-rays on children and adolescents who are medically compromised or developmentally disabled
License/Certification
Registered Dental Assistant License
Current California x-ray safety certification
Current CPR certification
