Description
The Library Assistant is able to complete all of the functions below. This position reports directly to the Coordinator, Library Operations.
Examples of Duties
Working collaboratively with other library staff, perform library operations including any or all below:
- Circulation duties (e.g. answering first tier reference, checking materials in/out, verifying patron information, making referrals to librarians and other library staff as necessary)
- Maintaining collections (including longer-term projects consisting of cleaning and moving materials and/or shelving)
- Assisting with and supporting campus events and exhibits (e.g. putting up, moving, and take down of furniture)
- Opening and closing the library building
- Completing related activities, as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as requested by Supervisor
- Employee performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to attending New College training and professional development programs such as required compliance training and safety training, as well as other programs that will assist them in the performance of their job responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma and three years of appropriate library experience. Experience with integrated library systems and customer service.
Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training and may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's degree and 1 year of academic library experience.
Experience with integrated library systems, especially Alma/PrimoVE, and customer service.
